What Injectables Treat
Rolling scars are pulled down by bands under the skin, and sometimes there is also a loss of tissue beneath them. Subcision releases the bands, and an injectable can then fill the space and support the skin. This is one option in our acne scar treatment plans.
Specific products are discussed at your consultation, once we know which suits your scars and skin.
- Hyaluronic acid filler: lifts soft rolling scars straight away and lasts months
- Calcium hydroxylapatite: supports released scars and stimulates collagen, often diluted for scars
- Poly-L-lactic acid: builds your own collagen gradually over several months
- Polynucleotides: support skin quality and healing in scarred skin, usually as a course
How Injectables Work for Scars
Injectables are usually placed straight after subcision.
Scars are released
Subcision frees the scars from the bands holding them down.
Support is placed
The injectable is placed into the released space beneath the scars with a fine cannula or needle.
Support builds
Filler gives immediate lift. Collagen-stimulating injectables build support over 2 to 3 months.

Common Questions
Injectables for Acne Scars: Common Questions
Can filler fix acne scars?
Filler can lift soft rolling scars, especially combined with subcision, but it won't help ice pick or sharp boxcar scars.
How long do injectables last for acne scars?
It depends on the product. Hyaluronic acid filler lasts months, while collagen-stimulating injectables can last longer.
Why combine injectables with subcision?
Subcision releases the scar, and the injectable supports the released skin and can reduce re-tethering.
Is it painful?
The area is numbed first. Most people feel pressure and some tenderness afterwards.
Who performs the injections?
Dr Mitch, who is trained to recognise and manage complications.
How much do injectables for acne scars cost?
It depends on the product and amount used. You get a written quote after your consultation.
