Who Is Dr Jimmy Wang?
Dr Jimmy Wang is a cosmetic physician and GP at DERM Skin Specialists in Mount Gravatt, on Brisbane's southside. At DERMSS he sees patients for doctor-led cosmetic consultations and for GP skin checks.
Before medicine, Dr Wang studied pharmacy at The University of Queensland, graduating with First Class Honours, and worked as a community pharmacist in Brisbane. He then completed his medical degree (MBBS) at The University of Queensland in 2011 and trained through the Mater Hospital network across a range of medical specialties.
He became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and began his career in skin cancer medicine, before moving into aesthetic medicine. What's Different About Doctor-Led Cosmetic Treatment?
The short answer: with Dr Wang, a doctor assesses you, explains your options and plans your treatment, inside a clinic with dermatologists on site.
- Assessment by a doctor. Dr Wang takes your medical history, checks your skin and face, and makes sure a cosmetic treatment is suitable for you before anything is planned.
- Facial anatomy first. Treatment is planned around the structure of your face, how it moves and how it changes with age.
- Natural-looking results. The aim is to look refreshed and like yourself, not "done". Sometimes that means doing less, or nothing.
- Realistic expectations. You'll hear what a treatment can and can't do, how long results usually last and what the risks are.
- Complications managed in-house. If a side effect or concern comes up after treatment, you can be reviewed at DERMSS, with our dermatologists Dr Mitch Robinson, Dr Emily Shao and Dr Benny Yau in the same building.

GP Skin Checks With Dr Wang
Dr Wang began his medical career in skin cancer medicine, and he continues to offer GP skin checks at DERMSS for $195. A GP skin check is a full-body check of your skin with a dermatoscope (a magnifying light). If a spot needs a closer look, a biopsy or treatment, it can be arranged in the same clinic.
DERMSS offers two pathways to have your skin checked:
- GP skin check with Dr Wang, $195. The lower-cost pathway for a routine full-body check.
- Dermatologist consultation, from $395. With Dr Mitch Robinson, Dr Emily Shao or Dr Benny Yau, all Fellows of the Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD). Some people choose this if they have had melanoma, have many moles or are at higher risk.

Is there downtime after cosmetic treatment?
It depends on the treatment. Most people return to normal activities the same day, but some redness, swelling or bruising for a few days is possible. Dr Wang will explain what to expect for your treatment and plan around any events.
How long do results last?
Results wear off over time. Treatment for expression lines usually fades gradually over a few months, and treatment for lost volume generally lasts longer. How long results last varies between people.
Will I look natural?
A natural-looking result is Dr Wang's aim. He plans treatment around your facial anatomy and will tell you if he thinks less treatment, or none, is the better choice.
Can Dr Wang help with jaw clenching or teeth grinding?
He can assess jaw muscle tension and bulk from clenching or grinding at a consultation, and explain whether treatment is suitable. You may also need a dentist's input.
What are the risks of cosmetic treatment?
