Who Is Dr Mitchell Robinson?
Dr Mitchell Robinson (Dr Mitch) is a specialist dermatologist and the founder of DERM Skin Specialists in Mount Gravatt, Brisbane. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD), with seven years of postgraduate training in dermatology, dermatologic surgery and laser surgery.
Most of his work is with acne scars, pigmentation and melasma, and sun-damaged or ageing skin, using CO2 laser resurfacing for skin rejuvenation.
If you've already tried creams, peels or laser elsewhere, he starts with a diagnosis: which types of acne scars you have, what is causing your pigmentation, and how your skin type is likely to respond. The wrong laser on the wrong skin can make pigmentation worse, so this step matters.
Acne scars are usually treated with a staged plan that combines subcision, TCA CROSS, punch techniques and laser resurfacing, matched to each scar type. CO2 and Erbium YAG resurfacing can also improve sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles and rough texture. Before you go ahead, you'll know the expected downtime, risks and costs.

Can acne scars be completely removed?
Usually not completely, but they can often be improved. How much depends on your scar types, your skin and the treatments used. Dr Mitch will give you a realistic idea of what is achievable at your consultation.
How much does acne scar treatment cost?
It depends on your scar types and how many treatments you need. After your specialist consultation (from $395), you will receive a treatment plan with costs before you go ahead. See fees.
Can a dermatologist fix pigmentation?
A dermatologist can work out what is causing it, such as sun spots, melasma or marks left after acne or inflammation, and treat the cause as well as the colour. Sun spots often respond well to laser. Melasma can usually be controlled but tends to come back, so it needs a longer-term plan.
Can laser make pigmentation worse?
It can. Some lasers can trigger darker patches, especially in darker skin types or with melasma. That is why your pigmentation is diagnosed and your skin type assessed before any laser is used.
Is CO2 laser resurfacing worth it?
It can be, for the right skin. CO2 resurfacing can improve sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, texture and some acne scars, but it involves downtime and risks, including changes in pigment. Dr Mitch will tell you whether it suits your skin and what result is realistic before you decide.
How much downtime is there after CO2 laser?
It depends on how deep the treatment goes. After full-face CO2 resurfacing, allow about a week of healing at home, with redness that can take several weeks to settle. Lighter treatments have less downtime.
